It is simpler for everyone to keep a simple url like this :
http://localhost:8080/petals-view/

instead of :
http://localhost:8080/petals-view-1.0/ , http://localhost:8080/petals-view-1.1/ & so on.

This default context should be fixed in the deployment descriptor of the webapp, to keep the same url across versions.

The WebApp context can't be fixed in the web.xml deployment descriptor and is specific to each server. You should configure it on your server.
