When you have a problem on Petals, the solution can come from the forum, the wiki, or even from blogs. And maybe from future website.

    Problem :

    • Search is a pain on the forum. Google search is much better. (in fact, 72% of forum visits come from google search, much above the average)
    • Going to all websites one by one is a pain as well.

So why not include a "search for community help" or something, in the studio ?

The search could use this search engine for example (launched in the default browser):
    http://www.google.com/cse/home?cx=007327255946870296995:resf85pviek

Advantage of using an intermediate is that it remains always the same, whatever website we decide to include in the search.

    What do you think ?
Is there a simple way for this ?

In my mind, because of its web nature, it should be better on the petals website or on the documentation home page, searching through documentation, forum, blogs, ...

Having a customized Google search and having it in the studio does not make sense for me.
That's two distinct things.

  • First, this customized search should be visible on our web site, either on the wiki or in the top right block that links our web sites.
  • And then, if there is a dedicated page on one of our web sites, then yes, I could put a link in the studio that would lead to this page.
    • Something like, "Get Community help".

But not directly to Google.
Besides, the welcome page of the studio already leads to our web sites (wiki, forum and official web site).

You're right, it will be useful on the web. Sebastien just included the search field on the forum for a first test. (It's not graphically tuned yet ^^)
Laurent&Seb might have a look for documentation as well.

For eclipse, I think we have a different understanding... I imagine something like firefox, with the search not really inside Eclise. Or maybe just the search file inside Eclipse, bu then lauching a browser.

To get the idea, lauch firefox => menu "?" => "Firefox Help"
It goe straight on http://support.mozilla.com/fr/kb/Firefox+Help?style_mode=inproduct , in a new tab.
What do you think about something like this in Eclipse ?

(BTW: I included the JIRA as well in the search)

We will see that when the web sites are more developed and used.
=> End of year's release.

From PETALSSTUD-106, there is a menu in the studio with several links to Petals web sites.
Search features should be available on these web sites, mainly on the wiki.
There is no need of a specific link for that in the studio.
